Birds in the Everglades.
Little Egrets. The Florida Everglades has a
few
different species of Egrets. I spend a lot of time in the
the beautiful swamp with my camera looking for these gorgeous birds and
there are lots of them.
The Little Egrets can be
found all over the world. The Little Egret is a medium sized wading bird and
it's distinction is the fact that it has black legs and yellow feet and a
black beak, it also has plumes on it's head neck and back. It is in fact a
sub species of Heron, but over the years it got to be called a Little Egret.
Snowy Egrets. Basically the same bird as the
Little Egret it is also a Heron. All white plumage with plumes on head and
back, you can be forgiven for just calling all of these little birds Little
Egrets as telling them apart is very difficult, probably the only sure way
is the lores on the little Egret are blue to green whilst on the Snowy Egret
they are yellow. The lores are the bit between the beak and the eyes.

Photographing The Wading Birds.
Photography Tips.
Photographing the birds like the Little Egrets is a great experienc. Lots of swamp birds will rest up
during the day and only feed in the morning and evening. Little Egrets are very easily spooked so a long zoom is needed at least a 300mm or longer. I like to use shutter priority of about 500th sec or higher but you will need a tripod, birds don't stay still for too long and catching them as they fly off is a treat.
Remember to boost your ISO up to 800/1600 if you can't get enough shutter
speed due to low light levels.
