Birds in the Everglades.
Little Herons. The Florida Everglades has a
lot of
different species of little Herons. I spend a lot of time in the
the beautiful swamp with my camera looking for these gorgeous little wading birds
and there are lots of them around.
The Little Herons
can be found all over the world it is a medium sized wading bird the
immature little blue heron is as white as an egret and easily mistaken as
such, but after a few weeks the dark blue spots begin to appear and the bird
quickly turns to the gorgeous blue color.
Heron Species. Best time of the day to see and
photograph the herons is at dawn, this is the time when they are most active
and feeding. little blue herons are very common as are the tri-colored
herons.
The little Green Herons are harder to spot
as they blend in to the background very well and they are brown not green.
more rare to see unless you go out at night are the midnight herons and
yellow crowned night heron

Photographing The Wading Birds.
Photography Tips.
Photographing the birds like the Little Herons is a great experience. Lots of swamp birds will rest up
during the day and only feed in the morning and evening. Little Herons are very easily spooked so a long zoom is needed at least a 300mm or longer. I like to use shutter priority of about 500th sec or higher but you will need a tripod, birds don't stay still for too long and catching them as they fly off is a treat.
Remember to boost your ISO up to 800/1600 if you can't get enough shutter
speed due to low light levels.
