Birds in the Everglades.
Reddish Egrets. The Florida Everglades has a
few
different species of Egrets. And the most active when it comes to hunting
fish is the Reddish Egret. And I spend a lot of time in the
the beautiful swamp with my camera looking for these gorgeous birds and
there are not many of them compared to their white counterparts. It is
estimated that there are as few as 1500 mating pairs in the continental USA.
Reddish Egret Dancer. This amazing bird has a
remarkable way of hunting fish, it does not stand waiting around for the
fish to swim by, this crazy bird goes chasing them all over the place, round
and round in circles and at very high speed, it is a joy to watch and it
works for it. The rRddish Egret is a medium sized, long legged, long necked
heron with a long pointed pinkish beak with a black tip. The legs and feet
are bluish-black

Photographing The Wading Birds.
Photography Tips.
Photographing the birds like the Reddish Egrets is a great experienc. Lots of swamp birds will rest up
during the day and only feed in the morning and evening. Reddish Egrets are very easily spooked so a long zoom is needed at least a 300mm or longer. I like to use shutter priority of about 500th sec or higher but you will need a tripod, birds don't stay still for too long and catching them as they fly off is a treat.
Remember to boost your ISO up to 800/1600 if you can't get enough shutter
speed due to low light levels.
