Asian Women - Submissive or not?
In West China’s XinJiang province, I saw a laughing Han and
Uygur point at each other and say ‘Saeaimahom’. In Uygur language,
it means “henpecked”. Because I’ve often heard Asian men jokes about
being henpecked, I do question whether the stereotypes of submissive
Asian women are true or not. The basic stereotypes propose that
Asian women do everything for men, never question what they men
say, lack opinions, and submit to the man’s every desire. Personally
though, I’ve never encountered such an Asian woman, and have never
heard of a man who has. Perhaps the stereotypes exist because western
women tend to be more publicly assertive, while Asian women are
more publicly passive and use their charms in other areas. Consequently,
Asian women appear submissive in public, even though they are assertive
in private. |
