Photos of the Deserts.

Photographing The Deserts. I love to be out with my camera as the sun comes up or goes down on the desert landscape and the rich red colors reflect in the sky and clouds, but when on a short vacation like I was in Utah shooting all day is what happens. Not the best but you have to make the most of it and there was so much to see and take in. A return trip is on the cards.

Desert Photography.

Shooting in the Canyons. Arches and the Canyonlands National Parks are an awesome spectacle at any time of day and shooting in the smaller box like canyons has it's own challenges of lots of sun light and very dark shadows, shooting with a wide angle lens is best for getting as much into the frame as possible. I used my 10x18mm a lot on this trip.

< span class="subtitle">Photography Tips.

Photographing Desert Landscape. When photographing the desert landscape you will need a tripod or some way to keep the camera still as the distances are so vast and you want all that little details of rocks and pinnacles in nice and sharp. You must keep the camera still.

Composition. And remember your composition try to get near, middle and far objects to add depth of field and eye catching interest to your shots. You can tweak your DSLR settings for contrast and saturation and sharpness all by +1 or +2.

Camera Settings. Try taking photographs from different angles and not just from standing up, but remember to keep your horizon level and use the rule of thirds. If your not sure of the manual settings, put your camera into AUTO MODE it will do a good job but look at the settings the camera chooses and learn by them. Try and get the sun setting behind grass or flowers or something else to make it a bit different.
