Sunset in the Florida Everglades.
Photographing The Sunset.
I love to be out with my camera as the sun goes down in the beautiful swamp, maybe by the water. As a nature photographer this is by far the best time of the day to be doing photography the light is at it's softest just like at dawn but always a little different a little warmer in the colors. Sometimes we get an evening thunderstorm that ads drama to the landscape and colors in the sky and clouds
Sundown Sunset and Dusk Photography.
Sundown.
At sunset in the Florida Everglades the creatures that survived the day settle down and hope to survive the night also. The Everglades is a cruel place of eat or be eaten, a harsh world of daily and nightly survival. To me photographing the sunset it is a time of beauty and tranquility as the evening silence settles over this peaceful and most beautiful land.
Photography Tips.
Photographing The Sunset. Ok it's early early evening and the sunset is just a few minutes away so first remember to change the white balance if you have it on daylight, auto white balance usually does a descent job or use the camera's sunset setting if it has one.
Sunset Photography.
Sunset is very similar to shooting the dawn. It can often help with the richness of color and the mood of the picture if you change the exposure compensation setting to -1 or -2 but be careful it does not make your photos too dark, if it does you can increase the ISO setting to around 800/1200.
Exposure.
When photographing the sunset you will need a tripod or some way to keep the camera still as the shutter speeds will be slower as the camera tries to soak up more light. Set your camera for longer exposures up to 1 second, to soften the water movement if you are by the sea or a stream.
Composition.
And remember your composition try to get near, middle and far objects to add depth of field and eye catching interest to your shots. You can tweak your DSLR settings for contrast and saturation and sharpness all by +1 or +2.
Camera Settings.
Try taking photographsfrom different angles and not just from standing up, but remember to keep your horizon level and use the rule of thirds. If your not sure of the manual settings, put your camera into AUTO MODE it will do a good job but look at the settings the camera chooses and learn by them. Try and get the sun setting behind grass or flowers or something else to make it a bit different. Happy sunset shooting.
